October 20th would have marked Tom Petty’s 67th birthday. His friend and bandmate Bob Dylan paid his respects to the late rocker by covering one of Petty’s best. Watch him perform “Learn To Fly” below:

 

The song, off Petty’s 1991 Into The Great Wide Open album, was co-written by fellow Travelling Wilburys member Jeff Lynne. Along with Dylan, Roy Orbison and George Harrison, Lynne and Petty made up the 1980’s supergroup.

Following Petty’s death, Dylan told Rolling Stone that, “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was a great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”

 

Loads of artists have paid their respects to the fallen rocker, including Killers, Coldplay and the Florida Gators where over 90, 000 people sang Petty’s “Won’t Back Down”.
