Alternative Weekends with Chantal

Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1.Edmonton Meals on Wheels is hosting the first-ever YEG Hot Dog Fest

Do you want a say in who makes the greatest hot dog in Edmonton? Well this month, you can spend your time checking out local food stands, restaurants, and food trucks, who are competing to win the titles of Edmonton’s Top Dog, Wackiest Dog, and Relished Dog! You’ll decide who’s crowned the winners by rating each signature hot dog that you’ve tried, on their website.

2.The Together Again Concert Series is starting up

From August 6th to September 5th, you can go to a real in-person music festival! Friday kicks off the Together Again Concert Series, which includes tons of SONiC bands like USS, Grandson, Current Swell, Our Lady Peace, Dear Rouge, Serena Ryder, The Sheepdogs, The Rural Alberta Advantage, The Trews, I Mother Earth, Bif Naked, and more.

The festival will take place outdoors at the Edmonton Exhibition Lands Racetrack Infield, where there’ll of course be a ton of food trucks too.

3.Watch The Edmonton Elks’ home opener

After 20 months without a CFL game, football is back! This is not only the first game in almost two years for our Edmonton football team, but it’ll be the first time EVER that they play as the Edmonton Elks.

The Edmonton Elks will be facing off against the Ottawa Redblacks for their home opener. The game will also include free Elks t-shirts for 35,000 ticket holders, and there will be post-game fireworks.
