Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Livestream concerts from Billie Eilish and Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first live show this weekend with a three-hour-long, 32-song set from their 2016 concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. This show will be livestreamed from today, October 22nd, until this Sunday, October 25th.

The performance includes the entire Ten album and some covers of Neil Young, Pink Floyd, and The Who.

Billie Eilish is doing a virtual concert this Saturday called “Where Do We Go”, similar to her album titled WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. 

Taking to Instagram, the 18 year old said she “miss[es] doing shows so muuuuuch soo I’m doing a livestream october 24th and i can’t wait to be performing agaaaain. get your tickets now!”.

2. The last Record Store Day drop this year

This year because of the pandemic Record Store Day was split into three drops, one in August, September and October. This Saturday, October 24th is the third and final drop for Record Store Day 2020. Some of the exclusive RSD releases this Saturday include albums from Beck, Cheap Trick, The Rolling Stones, and even Ryuichi Sakamoto’s soundtrack for the show Black Mirror.

There are tons of stores in Edmonton participating like Revolver, Sunrise Records, Blackyrd Myoozik, Freecloud Records, Record Collector’s Paradise, and Listen Records.

3. Boo at the Edmonton Valley Zoo

This weekend is the first weekend of Boo at the Zoo, which runs on October 24th, 25th and 31st. This annual event gives you a chance to go trick-or-treating at the Edmonton Valley Zoo! The staff will be handing out candy at trick-or-treat stations, and encourage you to wear your costumes and bring a reusable bag. To make this a safe event there is online timed ticketing, a one-way path throughout the zoo, and limited capacity for indoor buildings.
