Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Experience DARK in-person or online

DARK at Fort Edmonton Park officially opens today, but this year you can experience spooky season in-person or online! They have tons going on like the DARK Escape and their 3-hour Paranormal Investigations in either the Mellon Farm House (max 8 guests) or the Fort Complex (max 12 guests). There’s also DARK Mixology where you get a Spirit Box, “a sinfully delicious assortment of spirits and cocktail mixes”, and the guidance on how to make three Halloween-themed cocktails.

You can read more info on all the DARK options here.

2. Go to a socially distant concert

The Royal Foundry are playing LIVE at Edmonton Ski Club on Saturday, October 3rd. The show is from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. and all proceeds from ticket sales go to the musicians. Tickets are valid for up to 6 people seated at the same table.

For more info click here.

Please see www.edmontonskiclub.com for regulations and event control practices during COVID. A ticket must be purchased for space on the patio during the live music show and all attendees must submit their contact information upon entry.

3. Watch something from The Edmonton International Film Festival

The Edmonton International Film Festival starts today, October 1st and goes until October 10th.

“These films are curated from submissions and solicited from distributors. The festival also presents a generous dose of filmmaker chats, Q&A’s, gala screenings, a local filmmaker spotlight, ‘buzzy’ films that are travelling the festival circuit, shorts with lunch, and more. Films are selected on the basis of story, quality and originality. All films must be EDMONTON premieres.”

You can watch the films in-person at Landmark Cinemas 9 in City Centre or online. The online broadcast is on Super Channel, with “15 features + 20 short film programs, including Lunchbox Shorts. Learn where to subscribe to SuperChannel here, and how to here.”
