The 2020 Polaris Music Prize Short List was revealed earlier this month and one of the nominees is from right here in Edmonton! In case you need a refresher on what it’s all about, their website says the following:

“The Polaris Music Prize is a not-for-profit organization that annually honours and rewards artists who produce Canadian music albums of distinction. A select panel of music critics judge and award the Prize without regard to musical genre or commercial popularity.”

The Long List came out on June 15th with 40 albums nominated, which is now narrowed down to a 10 album Short List. This year the Edmonton Indigenous rock group nêhiyawak is in the top 10 with their album nipiy.

Here is a song off of that album!

You can see the full short list on their website, by clicking here. The winner will be announced on October 19th.
