Over the weekend, guitarist John Frusciante played his first show with the Red Hot Chili Peppers since 2007. Frusciante was joined by Anthony Kiedis and Flea to perform at a memorial concert for Andrew Burkle put on by the Tony Hawk Foundation. Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins filled in for an absent Chad Smith.

The group performed “Give It Away”, The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and Gang of Four’s “Not Great Men”.

Frusciante rejoined the group in December following the departure of Josh Klinghoffer. Following a decade of work with the band, Klinghoffer told Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast that “it was “a pretty simple decision” and that there was “no animosity” between him and his former bandmates. “It’s absolutely John’s place to be in that band. So that’s why I’m happy for him, I’m happy that he’s back with them.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers have confirmed that they are working on a new album with Frusciante. It is expected sometime this year.
