On Thursday, the internet went berserk when USA Today posted that HBO wouldn’t be pursuing a second season of “Watchmen” following showrunner Damon Lindelof’s announcement that he would be stepping away from the project.

HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told USA Today that Lindelof, who created “Lost” and “The Leftovers”, “brilliantly took this graphic novel and just kind of broke it open and created a whole new world”.

“It’s really in Damon’s thinking about what he wants to do. If there’s an idea that excited him about another season, another installment, maybe like “Fargo” or “True Detective” take on it, or if he wants to do something different altogether. We’re very proud of “Watchmen”, but what I’m most interested in [is] what Damon wants to do.”

Lindelof told USA Today last week that he doesn’t plan to pursue a second season, but he has “given my blessing” to HBO to continue the series.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails provided the score to the show, releasing it across three albums.

“Watchmen” is streaming now on HBO.
