The story of a 21 year old Edmonton woman has gone viral worldwide. The woman (who doesnt want to be named) was working at Joey’s on Jasper Ave. She claims they had the mandate of wearing high heels while serving tables. After a shift one day she took a photo of her feet and blood-stained socks. This girls friend, Nicola, posted the pic on her Facebook and it blew up.

The story has reached across Canada, USA, Europe, Japan and Australia. Sonic chatted with Nicola about what led to her post. Take a listen:

It is worth noting that Joey’s says they have changed this policy but for whatever reason it wasn’t properly communicated to/from the management at this location. Many seem to feel for this girl as Joey’s isn’t the first (or last) place to have these rules, and its stirring a strong debate over sexist business practices and human rights issues within the service industry.
