Just a few songs into Rage Against The Machine’s 2nd show of their long-awaited reunion tour singer Zack de la Rocha injured his leg. Unable to stand, the band left the stage briefly, but returned to finished the show …

“I don’t know what happened to my leg right now,” de la Rocha said once they returned. “Straight up, but you know what? We’re gonna keep this *** *** going. I can crawl across this stage. We’re gonna play for you all tonight.”

The band continued for the last month performing each night with de la Rocha sitting, although he did not get a throne like Dave Grohl did when he broke his leg on stage, the band triumphed through nonetheless. This past weekend, they finished up their North American leg of the tour at New York’s Madison Square Garden and shortly after the show it was revealed by a friend of the band’s that Zack de la Rocha has a torn Achilles.

At the recommendation of doctors, Rage has cancelled their upcoming UK/European leg of the tour that was scheduled for August and September, to allow de la Rocha a chance to heal. Recovery from a torn Achilles can take months, usually after surgery and lots of physiotherapy. It’s not a comfortable injury to live with day-to-day for the average person, so our hats off to de la Rocha for toughing out this past month on stage every night, that could not have been easy.

Right now, dates for the second North American leg of the tour in early 2023 remain unaffected.
