Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Kick-off spooky season with Deadmonton

It’s the first weekend for Deadmonton and this year they have not one, but two haunted houses for you to check out; “Warped” and “Dusk – Rise of the Dead”.

“Masking will be mandatory both indoors and outdoors. We have expanded our spacing even more for the lineups to ensure social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be mandatory before entering a show and several stations will be available throughout the compound. We will also continue to encourage pre-purchased, timed ticketing at a reduced capacity. ”

2. Attend the HSBC World Rugby Sevens

This Saturday and Sunday our city is holding the full HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series event at Commonwealth Stadium! The men and a ‘Fast Four’ women’s event will be featuring Canada, USA, Mexico, and Great Britain. Fans are encouraged to celebrate the two eight-hour days by joining the party with costumes (as seen in the video above).

3. Throw some axes and chow down on some pie with Flannel & Feast

If you feel like getting a little bit out of the city, Sylvan Lake is hosting Flannel & Feast. “Part of Alberta Culture Days, this one-day event celebrates hipster fashion, robust facial hair and lumberjack culture at it’s finest!”

There will be food trucks, a pie eating contest, a pig roast, axe throwing, live entertainment, mural painting, and more. Plus admission is FREE.
