Alternative Weekends with Chantal

by chantal.dunn on July 29, 2021, 08:07am. MST

Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

This Alternative Long Weekend is presented to you by our friends at AGD beer, because all good days start with AGD beer and long weekends.*

Here are 3 things to check out:

1.Hear new albums from Billie Eilish and Bleachers

This Friday, July 30th,  Billie Eilish is releasing a new album called Happier Than Ever. The album will include “My Future”, “Your Power”, “Therefore I Am”, and her most recent release, “NDA”.

You can pre-order the album here.

That same day we’re also getting a new album from Bleachers called Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night. The album will have ten songs including their hit “Stop Making This Hurt”. Their frontman Jack Antonoff spoke to us about how emotional the album is but how that emotion is primarily joy after the band was able to reunite to record together again.

You can watch the full interview with Jack Antonoff here.

2.Take a walk around the world with The Edmonton Heritage Festival

The Edmonton Heritage Festival is back at Hawerlak Park! However, it is a little different this year.

“To decrease person-to-person interaction, there will be NO FOOD TICKETS for sale. Food and goods can be purchased directly from the pavilions by credit or debit ONLY.”

This does mean one less line to go through before getting some good food. Entrance to the festival this year will be free but it will be by timed-entry, so make sure to book your time online in advance and present a Timed-Entry Pass when you get there.

3.Rock out at the Pigeon Lake Music Festival

Music festivals are back, and this one you can camp out at! The Pigeon Lake Music Festival is this weekend and you can see SONiC artists like Dear Rouge, Hawksley Workman, Said The Whale, and Dan Mangan.

There will also be food vendors like Evergreen Eatery, Pull Me, Big Softie – Edmonton, Oh For Food Sakes, Dawg Gone It, and Oh my Cod fish & Grill.

Tickets are still available, to get yours click here.
