Congratulations to SONiC 102.9 afternoon host Lauren Hunter on being awarded the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year Award in honour of Steve Young!

This award is handed out annually by Canadian Music Week to one broadcaster under the age of 30 who has made a significant contribution to their community. With campaigns like the City of One Million for the Civilian Pavilion t-shirts in support of the Edmonton Food Bank, Lauren has definitely made an impact!

She is the author of many high-profile shenanigans that have captured the attention of Edmontonians. Even throughout 2020 and the pandemic, Lauren has strived to make a difference in her community by raising more than $1,000 for cancer research during Dry February, and another $1,000 for the Edmonton Food Bank by auctioning off a personal painting.

In 2017, Lauren painted a portrait of Oilers Captain Connor McDavid and sold prints which raised over $25,000 for Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS). These are just a few of the many notable viral and charitable accomplishments from Lauren Hunter, who continues to make her listeners smile and make a meaningful difference in her hometown of Edmonton.

Lauren Hunter will be recognized with the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year Award during the 2021 Virtual Canadian Music Week May 18 – 21, 2021.
