Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Get to know Billie Eilish in her new documentary

Friday, February 26th, Billie Eilish will be releasing her new documentary titled “Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry”. The movie is an Apple Original Film directed by R.J. Cutler, and will be available to watch on Apple TV+.

Prior to the film’s release, Billie Eilish will be hosting a livestream premiere event, tonight at 7 p.m.

Apple has said that the premiere will feature special video packages from the film, a live stripped-down performance from Eilish, an interview with Cutler, and an “intimate conversation” with Billie, all hosted by Apple Music host and DJ Zane Lowe.

For more information on the premiere event click here.

2. Stream a local musical theater show: “Scooby-Doo: Long Paw of the Law”

Law Show is a University of Alberta, Faculty of Law student group that produces an annual theatrical production with the goal of giving back to the Edmonton community. This year’s theatrical production is a spoof called “Scooby-Doo: Long Paw of the Law”.

Instead of cancelling the production or pushing it back, they have pivoted to being an entirely virtual show with performers filming themselves at home.

They’re also hosting a silent auction from now until February 28!

3. Watch the 78th Golden Globe Awards

This year the Golden Globes may seem a little different, but the show must go on – virtually.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will be hosting the night for the fourth time as a duo. However, Poehler will be hosting from California, and Fey will be hosting from New York City.

The awards show usually happens a couple months earlier in the year, but was postponed to this Sunday, February 28, at 6 p.m.

You can find the list of nominees here.
