Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Hear The Black Keys’ 10th anniversary reissue of Brothers, with three bonus tracks

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their sixth studio album Brothers, The Black Keys are doing a Deluxe Remastered Anniversary Edition, which features 3 added tracks.

Brothers (Deluxe Remastered Anniversary Edition) will be released on Friday, December 18th, and will have a total of 18 tracks. The previously unreleased songs are called “Keep My Name Outta Your Mouth”, “Black Mud Part II”, and “Chop and Change”.

The reissue will be released on 2-LP, CD and as a 7-inch box set which includes its own 60-page booklet as seen in the video, with archival photos and a limited-edition poster. You can pre-order it here.

2. Discover The Top Alternative Christmas Jams

Happy Holidays from SONiC 102.9! We want to give you some holiday tunes with an alternative twist, all in one place. So tomorrow, December 18th, we are releasing The Top Alternative Christmas Jams! You’ll be able to enjoy some brand new Christmas songs and some covers of the classics from some of your favourite alternative artists.

3. Get your Abandoned Shopping Cart Calendar before they’re gone

The Abandoned Shopping Carts of YEG 2021 Calendar is still available for all your last minute Christmas shopping needs!

We usually have 500 to sell, but this year after selling so many so fast, we’re raising the goal to 1,029 calendars. They’re $20 each, with all net proceeds throughout the month of December going to YESS. PLUS, Collin Bruce & the Collin Bruce Mortgage Team will match donations up to $10,000! This means if we sell them all, we could raise $30,000 for YESS.

Get your calendar mailed directly to you for an additional fee, or choose free local pick-up at Print Machine (10417 79 Ave).
