Alternative Weekends with Chantal

Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Drive through Candy Cane Lane

This Friday, December 11th, is the official opening of Candy Cane Lane. However this year with new regulations in place, it will only be a drive-through experience.

Their latest update is as follows:

“We have asked the City for help with traffic and directional signage though AHS and the City of Edmonton are recommending driving this season. Most importantly, be responsible for your own health and safety and consider the health and safety of the communities you will be visiting. Please wear a mask, adhere to physical distancing and follow the recommended regulations. Please follow our social media accounts for the most up to date information (we will be providing information on the locations of Edmonton Food Bank drop off locations).”

2. Watch Gorillaz’ livestream concert

Gorillaz are doing a world-wide virtual concert with animated visual elements and featured guests, performing their latest album Song Machine. The North American broadcast will be on Saturday, December 18th.

“Nothing is going to stop Gorillaz from performing Song Machine Live for you in 2020! A global live stream, with 3 performances across 3 different time zones. Coming to you live and direct from London on December 12 & 13th.”

3. Don’t forget your copy of The Abandoned Shopping Carts of YEG 2021 Calendar

The Abandoned Shopping Carts of YEG 2021 Calendar is still up for grabs!

We usually have 500 to sell, but this year after selling so many so fast, we’re raising the goal to 1,029 calendars. They’re $20 each, with all net proceeds throughout the month of December going to YESS. PLUS, Collin Bruce & the Collin Bruce Mortgage Team will match donations up to $10,000! This means if we sell them all, we could raise $30,000 for YESS.

Get your calendar mailed directly to you for an additional fee, or choose free local pick-up at Print Machine (10417 79 Ave).
