Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Enjoy a virtual music festival

This year instead of the usual two consecutive three-day weekends, the Austin City Limits Festival will be jam-packed into this weekend! There are archived performances from tons of SONiC artists like Billie Eilish, twenty one pilots, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, and more. The broadcast is completely free and goes from October 9-11.

“A year without Austin City Limits Music Festival is hard to imagine. Since 2002, we haven’t let rain, heat, cold, dust or mud stop us from gathering for a weekend of live music in Zilker Park. This year, the safest place to be is at home.”

2. Celebrate two album anniversaries

This Saturday, October 10th has some major musical milestones.

Green Day’s fourth studio album Insomniac is turning 25 and No Doubt’s third studio album Tragic Kingdom is also celebrating it’s 25th anniversary. On Saturday we will be posting 7 fun facts and a bit about the origin story for each album. That will be under “Latest” here on sonic109.com.

3. Join the cast of Dazed and Confused for a virtual table reading

CP/AP and Third Party

Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, and more are getting together on Sunday, October 11th for a virtual table reading of Dazed and Confused! Not only can you watch the cast read their script, but there will also be a Q&A moderated by comedian Patton Oswalt.

This event is in support of the “get-out-the-vote” initiative. Proceeds are going to organizations that are working to increase voter registration in Texas.

You can get tickets here.
