The Flaming Lips appeared on The Late Late Show with Stephan Colbert, performing a unique socially distant concert. We’ve seen socially distant performances using Zoom or other video conferences, but this band took a new strategy to isolated shows. Members of the band, as well as the small live audience, were each inside their own personal inflated plastic bubble. The Flaming Lips performed their track “Race For The Prize”.

The caption of the video reads:

“Leave it to our wild and wonderful friends The Flaming Lips to solve the riddle of the socially-distant concert! Watch as they once again bring cutting-edge innovation to their Late Show appearance, performing their 1999 fan favorite “Race For The Prize,” which appears on their latest release “The Soft Bulletin: Live at Red Rocks featuring The Colorado Symphony Orchestra.””

In the past, these types of bubbles have been used by the band to do crowd surfing at shows.

Their lead singer Wayne Coyne even got married in a giant bubble, back in January of 2019.

It’s good to see that during the pandemic, the bubbles are still being put to good use.
