The next Mad Max film is going to be a prequel.

George Miller said in an interview with the New York Times that the movie will be focused on Furiosa from Fury Road, released back in 2015. Charlize Theron who played Furiosa, will not be in the prequel though because of the lack of de-aging technology.

“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet. Despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, [in] particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe.”

Because it is going to be an origin story about Furiosa, they’re going to try and find a girl in her 20s to play the character. George Miller has said that they’ll start working on it after he finishes his current project, which was delayed due to COVID-19.

For the past 15 years the writers, have created backstories for every character in the movie, including Doof Warrior, who carries a guitar that doubles as a flame thrower. Although there’s no info on when this prequel will be in the works George Miller has said, “hopefully everything settles down with the pandemic, we’ll see what the world allows us to do with Furiosa.”
