Each year, the Polaris Music Prize is presented to the top Canadian album based on artistic merit without consideration for genre or record sales.

The award comes with a $50,000 cheque. Past recipients include Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs, Feist’s Metals and more. On Tuesday, the short list of 10 nominees was announced, including your SONiC Field Day artist PUP. See the full list below.

The prize will be presented September 16 at the Polaris Gala. In addition to the grand prize, the additional nine acts will recieve $3,000 each, courtesy of Slaight Music.
