1. Death Cab For Cutie – “Northern Lights”

“Northern Lights”, the second single off of Death Cab For Cutie’s Thank You For Today, stays true to the album’s themes of gentrification, changing geography and friends leaving. Featuring CHVRCHES’ Laura Mayberry, the song paints a picture of the nature surrounding the band’s ever-changing hometown of Seattle.

2. Vance Joy – “We’re Going Home”

Joy wrote the song while on touring opening for Taylor Swift. “It’s a song that took me by my surprise. It’s about stepping out into the unknown and finding out what you’re made of, which I did a bit on that tour. I was definitely scared opening up shows for Taylor Swift. It was kinda scary but I’m glad this song arrived.”

 

3. The Beaches – “Fascination”

Inspired by Berlin, the song was written in Los Angeles by Toronto-native Jordan Miller. The Beaches frontwoman told Exclaim! that “it was written about an adventure I had in Berlin a few summers ago.” She noted that the song “came together quickly”. It’s the first material to be released since the band’s 2017 debut Late Show.
