Quentin Tarantino has begun work on his 10th film.

The currently untitled project will be an ensemble piece similar to Inglorious Basterds. Set in LA in 1969, a large portion of the film will focus on the Manson family murders. Margot Robbie is said to be cast as Sharon Tate, while Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise have been reportedly offered roles. Tarantino disputed rumours that the film was entirely about Manson, saying that “it’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969”.

The news comes just days before Charles Manson died at the age of 83 on November 20, 2017.

Sony Pictures won the bid to put the film into production. This will be the first film Tarantino makes without the involvement of Miramax or The Weinstein Company. He reportedly planned to make this new film with the help of his long-time collaborator Harvey Weinstein, but scrapped those plans in light of reports of sexual misconduct against Weinstein.

Previously, Tarantino had said that he hopes to retire after his 10th film or when he’s 60. This film could fill both his retirement requirements. The film is set to have a similar budget to Django Unchained of $100 million. Production is set to begin in mid-2018 with a 2019 release date.
