Depeche Mode have been touring since 1980, and tonight they play the last show of their North American tour here in Edmonton! Get tickets HERE and learn more about the electronic pioneers below.

1. Inspired by the Cure, the band formed in 1977 and called themselves “No Romance”. They got the name Depeche Mode from a French fashion magazine.

2. Frontman Dave Gahan was invited to join when band members heard him sing David Bowie’s “Heroes” at a local jam session. They still perform the song to this day.

3. The band released “People Are People” in 1984. It became their first hit and was used as the theme to West German TV’s coverage of the 1984 Olympics. It’s often played as a celebration song at LGBTQ rallies and pride festivals. In 2011, the song was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll” list.

4. Trent Reznor and Tony Hawk are BIG FANS.

5. The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide and have been named one of the “50 Bands That Changed the World”, according to Q. VH1 ranked Depeche Mode #98 in their “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” while Billboard named them as the 10th most successful dance club artist of all time. In October 2017, Depeche Mode was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2018.
