A sandy beach has magically erupted in downtown Edmonton.

Just downstream from the Low Level Bridge, there’s a brand spanking new beach.

Kim Schaeble stumbled upon it Friday morning while in search of petrified wood.

“Honestly, it was a what-the-heck moment. It’s an entire beach. A sand beach. It’s beautiful.”

Turns out the reason the beach appeared is because the current changed. Workers building the new Tawatina LRT bridge temporarily stopped the flow of water in the spring to allow them to work. That allowed land beneath the river to become uncovered and it became a beach!

Maybe the beach could become permanent? LET’S HOPE SO!
