This week, the Red Hot Chili Peppers storm Edmonton for the first time since 2012, making it their first appearance at Rogers Place! They put on some of the craziest shows this city’s ever seen, so if you’re headed to Rogers on Sunday, this is what you’ve got in store.

1. Half-nekked-ness. The Chili Peppers aren’t the biggest fans of clothing. More often than not, frontman Anthony Kiedes and bassist Flea are shirtless wearing shorts and a single sock. Drummer/Will Ferrell-look alike Chad Smith wears a little more than his fellow bandmates by dressing in only the finest jogging suits.

2. Covers galore! Not only do the guys in the band make awesome music, they’re also fans of awesome music. They’ve performed loads of covers and included many of them on their albums including Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire”. Check out this one of Bowie’s “Suffragette City”!

3. Time to get physical. A Chili Peppers show is not only a form of entertainment, but also a work out. The guys are all in their mid-fifties, minus 37 year old guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, but they can MOVE. Jumping around and singing is hard enough already, let alone when you have to spit out words as fast as Kiedes.

4. The kings of improvised jams. Having been a band for nearly 35 years, the guys know exactly how to read each other’s moves on stage. As talented instrumentalists, they have this superpower-like ability to bust into a hypnotic jam and seamlessly work it back into any song.

5. Career-spanning setlists. Having released 11 albums since 1984, the band as a LOT to work with. They know they have fans of every age, so they make sure to play a little from every album – or a lot. Chili Pepper’s setlists can be way over 20 songs, although for the current tour most setlists tap out at just under 20 songs. Just check out what you can expect for Edmonton below!
