On August 25, Edmonton’s own The Wet Secrets are taking over the Needle Vinyl Tavern as the next SONiC Local Spotlight. So let’s get to know ’em!

The band formed in 2005 after an impromptu dare between bassist Lyle Bell and drummer Trevor Anderson to write, record and release an album in just one week. The product of that dare became A Whale of a Cow, followed by 2007’s Rock Fantasy, Free Candy in 2014 and the EP I Can Live Forever earlier this year.

After the addition of a sixth member, the band is ready to go “fully coconut” and perform in their killer red and white marching band uniforms. Listen below.

Band breakdown:

  • Lyle plays bass, guitar and lead vocals
  • Trevor is on drums
  • Kim plays the trumpet
  • Emma rocks that trombone
  • Paul plays percussion – and the congas!
  • Christian is on saxophone and percussion duty

Watch them shred on the bass, drums, organ, trumpet AND trombone in “Floating in the Sky”

And the name The Wet Secrets? It involves… ear licking.

And when the band isn’t busy harmonizing or picking up their marching band outfits from the drycleaners, they’re tending to their highly curated Instagram! Or at least, Lyle is.
