A new study is casting doubt on the idea that cameras improve road safety.

A Chicago-based study links red light cameras to an increase in rear-end collisions, casting doubts on claims that the mounted cameras improve safety at intersections.

The study’s findings were published by the Chicago Tribune Friday.  They  found that traffic cameras seemed to reduce injuries by 15% for collisions at right angles, but the improvements were overshadowed by a 22% increase in injuries from rear-end accidents. When looked at together, the study shows a statistically insignificant increase of injuries by 5%.
